Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 : Bangkok - Kanchanaburi
After breakfast the bus is leaving early in the morning in direction to the well known Floating Market of Damnern Saduak. In some seasons we will also ride along the coast to see how the Thai people make salt out of seawater. The floating market is about 100 km away and located in the west of Bangkok which belongs to the province Ratchaburi. At the market we will make a nice boat tour which takes about half an hour. It is picturesque to see hundreds of small boats with fruit, meat, fish and other food. This is also the right moment to enjoy a (iced) coffee.
After that we are going directly to Kanchanaburi common known for the ‘Bridge over the River Kwai’ and the train rail of death. The bridge got attention because it is part of the world-famous same-named movie. Around noon we will have lunch close to the bridge at a floating restaurant. Then we will visit one of the three memorial places for the victims of the train rail of death at the erveld Chungkai. In the south-west of Chungkai we will visit Wat Tham Khao Pun which is a temple located in a grotto. In the grotto, in between of the stalagmites and stalactites are Buddhistic and Hindu pictures. In times of the World War II the Japanese used the grotto also as hideout and storage.
Next we will go further to the River Kwai Village Hotel at the riverside of the River Kwai. The afternoon is free and you have a lot of possibilities to fill your free time. You can go on an adventurous Quad ride through the neighborhood or get a treatment in the Rock Valley Hot Springs & Fish Spa. Take a refreshing swim in one of the three swimming pools which are filled with the water of a waterfall. After the dinner (not inclusive) you can search for the traditional Mon-dance. The Mon life takes mainly place in Birma and that is why a performance in Thailand is very unique and really special.
After the breakfast we will drive upstream to the Hellfire pass. There is a museum which belongs to the Hellfire pass and reminds you of the terrible happenings during World War II after Japan occupied Birma and Thailand and decided to build a railway between the two countries through the mountains and the jungle. At the museum you can have a look at photo collections, drawings, self-made objects and movie showings. Under the lead of our experienced guide you will discover the 1200 meter long and 5 meter wide passage through the mountains which was carved by war prisoners and forced workers under miserable circumstances. At night the railway is lighted up by oil-and carbide lamps from which you can derive the name Hellfire pass.
Lunch will be served at the train station from Ban Nam Tok. With a slow train you are going to drive through the old railway until Ta Ke Len which is an amazing tour. Keep your camera ready when the train is crossing the famous viaducts along the River Kwai. Next stop is the Jungle Raft which an unique floating hotel in the middle of the jungle build out of wood and bamboo. The simple air-conditioned rooms have a bathroom with a shower, a toilet and a veranda with a deckchair. This stunning location has everything it takes to let you completely relax and get some rest. The afternoon is free and you can organize it on your own. Relax in an armchair, visit the close village, go swimming in the river or swimming pool or enjoy a traditional Thai Massage.
Dinner will be provided including a great view over the River Kwai.
In the morning after breakfast we are driving to the beautiful Erawan National Park where we are going to visit the Erawan Waterfalls. They consist of 7 clear blue terraces in which you can enjoy a swim. Located behind the waterfalls you can discover different grottos and caves. All in all a perfect morning. Do not forget to pay attention to the small fishes which try to adhere at your skin. That is a strange feeling but not dangerous at all. In luxurious massage parlors they are using such fishes to clean the skin in a natural way.
We will have lunch close to the Srinkarin Dam which is the biggest of Thailand and also part of our tour. Unfortunately after these unique experiences it is time to go back to Bangkok. If the traffic is not too busy we are going to stop at the Chedi of Nakorn Pathom and visit this place. If the traffic is bad you will be able to see the highest chedi of the world from the minibus. This chedi is the most important pilgrimage site of the Buddhism. At the evening we will arrive at your hotel in Bangkok.
